Three-day consultative meeting held to develop Iran’s 5th National Strategic Plan of HIV/AIDS

a technical-consultative meeting for development of the 5th NSP of HIV/AIDS in Iran for the period of 2020-2024 was held from 2 to 4 November in Bandar Abbas

National Strategic Plan (NSP) for control of HIV/AIDS plays as the constitution for the national response to HIV/AIDS during a five-year period.

Pursuant to approaching the end of 4th NSP of HIV/AIDS for the period of 2015-2019, a technical-consultative meeting for development of the 5th NSP of HIV/AIDS in Iran for the period of 2020-2024 was held from 2 to 4 November in Bandar Abbas.

This multi-stakeholder document will serve to direct a coordinated response at country level where all resources and efforts of governmental, private sector, civil society, academia, UN and communities are put together to shape an effective response to combat HIV/AIDS.

The event, participated by over 50 people included representatives from public, private sectors, NGOs, affected people, national experts as well as representatives from UNDP, UNAIDS, UNICEF, UNHCR, UNFPA and WHO.

This event was supported by UNDP/ under the Global Fund to fight HVI/AIDS, TB and Malaria Country Coordinating Mechanism (CCM) project and was hosted by the Deputy of Health of Hormozgan University of Medical Science.

The 5th NSP will complement the 4th NSP. It will focus on four thematic working groups, namely:

  1. Prevention
  2. Diagnosis and Treatment
  3. Support and Empowerment
  4. Monitoring and Evaluation

It will be based on the changes in main factors and HIV epidemy pattern. The 5th NSP will prioritize the strategies, identify the vision, missions, and define the mid and long-term goals.

The participants discussed the weaknesses, strengths, existing and upcoming opportunities and threats in each thematic group. The outcome of the discussions will be used in the technical groups during future months to identify the partners of the progrmme, target groups, monitoring and evaluation indicators, budget and development of the roadmap.
