Mr. Haoliang Xu, UNDP Assistant Administrator and Director of Regional Bureau for Asia and the Pacific
Tehran, 21 June 2014 (UNDP) – United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Assistant Administrator and Director of Regional Bureau for Asia and the Pacific, Mr. Haoliang Xu’s official visit to the Islamic Republic of Iran began today and will continue until 26 June.
During his stay Mr. Xu will meet and confer with a number of senior Iranian government officials including H.E. Foreign Minister Javad Zarif, and H.E. Deputy Foreign Minister, Seyed Abbas Araghchi among others.
He will also visit Uromiyeh in order to observe the status of the Lake’s condition and the progress made in reversing the decline as a result of the Government of Japan’s grant to UNDP. This grant is being implemented as a new component of the ongoing Conservation of Iranian Wetlands Project in partnership with Iran’s Department of Environment. Mr. Xu is also scheduled to visit Tabriz to review UNDP activities funded by the Global Fund to support people living with HIV and to promote HIV prevention.
The objectives of Mr. Xu’s mission to Iran are to deepen the development engagement of UNDP with Iran, to review the country’s key development priorities being supported by UNDP and to interact with the local community.
