UNDP Iran holds technical workshop with Agricultural Bank of Iran
The Green Banking Initiative is a joint project between Bank Keshavarzi of Iran, the national development bank for natural resources and agriculture development and UNDP. The objective is to improve the bank’s “green” banking and credit procedures and practices and also to integrate development and banking.
Following two previous workshops which reviewed the current status of the Bank circulars, the third workshop was held on 6 February at Simorgh Hotel.
The workshop started with Mr. Murali, Deputy Resident Representative of UNDP’s remarks. “As Iran faces challenges in sustainable economic growth and the Government’s 5th Five Year Development Plan (2011-2015) intends to achieve “growth with justice,” the new project will contribute to economic development and resource allocation targeting as well as to institutional capacity for development banking and finance” Mr. Murali said. He added “The purpose of the Green Banking project (duration 2013 – 2016) is to achieve a credit provision system which complies with Development Indicator.”
Mr. Mirzaie, National Project Manager of Green Banking project along with Dr. Shajari, the consultant of the project introduced general ideas of Inclusive Growth and Sustainable Development for conserving environment in the water resources area.
In the second part of the workshop attendees – which included provincial bank managers as well as other organization experts – were divided to three working groups when they worked on one of the Bank Keshavarzi circulars regarding provision of banking facilities to irrigation systems.
At the end each working group presented their findings. During the next workshop the working groups will review the followings: Land and Water, Agriculture and Horticulture, Fisheries, Forest and Rangeland Livestock and Poultry and Food Industry.
