UNDP Iran organized a workshop in Tehran with the theme “Unemployment in Iran and its Solutions.” More than thirty people including government officials attended the workshop which was held on 9th October.
The workshop was inaugurated by Dr B. Murali, UNDP Deputy Resident Representative in Iran. He also made a presentation on India’s National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA) Programme which provides 100 days of guaranteed employment to one member of every rural household. The NREGA was first implemented in 200 of the poorest districts and now covers all rural districts in India.
The workshop’s purpose was to identify good solution strategies to the challenge of inclusive growth in Iran – and it relations to alleviating unemployment.
Dr. Hassan Taee made a substantive presentation on the factors underlying unemployment in Iran.
The participants - representing Government agencies that are UNDP programme partners, including the Presidencies Strategic Planning and Control department, Ministry of Interior, Department of the Environment, Ministry of Cooperative Labour and Social Welfare, the Forest, Rangeland and Watershed Organization, and the Agriculture Bank of Iran – then undertook work group activity and presented their results.
The result of the one day workshop was a set of solutions produced by each work group to alleviate unemployment – which will be further consolidated for the next workshop.
