During her recent visit to Iran, Under Secretary-General (USG) for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, Valerie Amos expressed UN’s desire to utilize the expertise available in Iran in disaster risk management.
UNDP is particularly pleased with this acknowledgement of the strong capacities that exist in Iran – capacities that we have had a role in building through our work in partnership with National Disaster Management Organization and other stakeholders spread over the last and the current programme cycles.
USG Amos also visited and met the heads of our partners in the Disaster Risk Management programme – Tehran Disaster Mitigation and Management Organization and Iranian Red Crescent Society.
