Gary Lewis Visits 8th MENA Conference hosted by the Iranian Red Crescent Society

UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative, Mr. Gary Lewis, visited the 8th MENA Conference hosted by the Iranian Red Crescent Society in Tehran.

UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative, Mr. Gary Lewis, visited the 8th MENA Conference hosted by the Iranian Red Crescent Society in Tehran.

The Middle East and North Africa Red Cross and Red Crescent Conference (MENA) is a biannual forum which brings together the National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and other humanitarian actors to address humanitarian issues and challenges and contribute to effective coordination and cooperation on humanitarian action in the region. 

The 8th conference will be held in Tehran from 21 to 24 April with the main theme of “Partnership for Humanity”, and will focus on three main topics:

  1. Enhancement of disaster management and risk reduction
  2. Strengthening capacities and role of youth and volunteers
  3. Promotion of culture of peace and non-violence

During this visited Mr. Gary Lewis also visited the exhibition including the Iranian Red Crescent factory productions.

In an interview with Press TV, Mr. Lewis said that “In recent times we have witnessed the effective deployment of the Iranian Red Crescent Society both in Bushehr earthquake and the one in Sistan & Baluchestan. They are first on ground and they respond in coordination with the National Disaster Mangaemnt Organization. The Iranian Red Crescent Society has deployed in countries nearby […] to assist countries and people in need”.
