Japanese contribution for restoration of Lake Urmia progress report

November 26, 2014

In 2014, based on mutual agreement between the Governments of Iran and Japan to cooperate in the field of environment and due to the critical condition of the Lake Urmia, the Government of Japan allocated US 1 million dollars to address the issues of this lake. Given the successful implementation of Sustainable Agriculture pilot projects, this grant was allocated through UNDP Iran to be implemented as a new component under Conservation of Iranian Wetlands Project.  Since then, Government of Japan has contributed another US 2 million dollars to UNDP for this project.
