Launch of Public Sector Innovation Week 2018

Kolba Innovations Lab held the Launch of Public Sector Innovation Week 2018, a concluding week-long campaign to cap off the results in the governance innovation component of the “Innovation for Development” project. The project is funded by the European Union and implemented by UNDP in Armenia. The week consists of a series of events and public campaigns that highlight transformative approaches used in the public sector, raise awareness about the topic and engage experts from different backgrounds to contribute to the discussion on how public sector innovation can be accelerated in Armenia. The week includes both public events and closed professional meetings and discussions.

Kindergarten N 160 in Kanaker-Zeytun district is now fully renovated and ready to educate generations in better conditions. The kindergarten reopened its doors on December 14, 2017. With the presence of the Mayor of Yerevan, Taron Margaryan, UNDP Resident Representative in Armenia a.i, Dmitry Mariyasin, and other officials, the kindergarten commenced functioning in a radically new and improved environment, with warmer rooms, better lighting due to the energy efficiency component in the program.
Scaling Up the Impact of Local Ventures

The ImpactAim Venture Accelerator – the first impact accelerator in Armenia – was officially launched today by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), in partnership with ImpactHub Yerevan and the Catalyst Foundation. As part of the UNDP’s impact investment strategy, the venture accelerator is designed to leverage the unique global network and expertise of UNDP and to scale up the impact of ventures to help achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Armenia and beyond. Today, Karen Karapetyan, Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia, Bradley Busetto, UN Resident Coordinator/UNDP Resident Representative in Armenia, representatives of government agencies, as well as international organizations, diplomatic corps, private sector representatives, and media attended the launch event of the ImpactAim Venture Accelerator.
New tool to improve the services to foreign investors

The Development Foundation of Armenia and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) have launched today a grant program “E-governance as an Electronic Tool for Facilitating the Government to Attract Foreign Investment”. The parties, through the survey among the business community, aim to identify procedures and processes that hinder investments and need to be simplified to improve the investment climate and enhance business competitiveness in Armenia. The project is funded by the Austrian Development Agency.
UNDP continues supporting border communities in Tavush region

A new fruit orchard will be planted in Baghanis village that will boost fruit production in the community. The agro-machinery pool in Sarigyugh-Nerkin Tsaghkavan cluster will help the farmers to better cultivate and collect the crops with minimized loss and maximized profit. These initiatives are part of the five-year “Integrated Support to Rural Development: Building Resilient Communities” project, financed by the Government of the Russian Federation and implemented by the UNDP in Armenia, in close partnership with the RA Ministry of Territorial Administration and Development. The project budget is over USD 5 million and is aimed at increasing income-generation opportunities and supporting rural infrastructure in borderline communities of Tavush region.
The Government of Armenia and the UN set up the world’s first National SDG Innovation Lab

The Government of Armenia and the United Nations have set up the world’s first National SDG Innovation Lab to accelerate the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Armenia. For the first time, the state, in cooperation with the United Nations, is creating an innovation platform to support the UN SDGs implementation at country level. To do so, the Lab will draw upon innovative methodologies and expertise available from across the world, including the UN’s own innovation facilities and tools.
Tourism Research and Development Center Opened in Tavush Region

Today the official opening ceremony of Tavush Tourism Research and Development (R&D) Center took place in Ijevan branch of the Yerevan State University. The event was organized in the framework of Integrated Rural Tourism Development (IRTD) project, funded by the Russian Federation and implemented by UNDP in Armenia, in close partnership with the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Development.
Green Lighting Week – Showing Yerevan in a Whole New Light

The UNDP-GEF "Green Urban Lighting" project, in partnership with the RA Ministry of Nature Protection and Yerevan Municipality, organises a Yerevan Green Lighting Week on 23-27 October aimed at raising public awareness about energy-efficient and environmentally-friendly lighting solutions. The campaign is in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals #7 (Affordable and Clean Energy) and #13 (Climate Action). Today, Erik Grigoryan, First Deputy Minister of Nature Protection, Dmitry Mariyasin, UNDP Deputy Resident Representative in Armenia, and Vardan Gabrielyan, Director of the “Yerevan City Light” CJSC of Yerevan Municipality, took part in the kick-off event of the awareness campaign.

Developing rural tourism through engaging local community

On the first weekend of October, the Integrated Rural Tourism Development project initiated a Fam Trip (familiarization trip) for tour operators. The main idea of the trip was to show tour operators new spots, guest houses in Bjni in order for them to attract and bring tourists here. This way local community members will actively engage in rural tourism development process, thus creating alternative income generating tool for sustainable living.
